Preparation for Orthognathic Surgery Cluj-Napoca
At BioEstetic Dent in Cluj-Napoca we prepare and support cases that need orthognathic surgery: presurgical orthodontics, interdisciplinary planning, and follow-up — in collaboration with maxillofacial surgeons at partner clinics.
Important: we do not perform orthognathic surgery at our clinic. The operation takes place at the maxillofacial surgery service you choose with us; we handle orthodontic preparation, coordination, and postoperative orthodontic care.
What orthognathic surgery preparation means
Orthognathic surgery corrects skeletal jaw discrepancies (for example prognathism, retrognathism, significant asymmetry) that cannot be resolved with braces alone. It is a maxillofacial surgery procedure, performed in hospitals or clinics with dedicated surgical facilities.
BioEstetic Dent’s role is orthodontic and coordinative: we assess whether you need an ortho-surgical pathway, prepare teeth and occlusion before surgery, collaborate with the surgeon (various clinics / specialists), and continue orthodontic treatment after the procedure until the result stabilizes.
We do not “sell” or “perform” the operation here. We support the patient, prepare the clinical case, and work as a team with the surgeon you choose or we recommend from our collaborator network — transparently, step by step, with clear expectations.
Many patients ask “do I need surgery?” The answer comes after orthodontic consultation, imaging (photos, X-rays, sometimes CBCT), and when appropriate, joint discussion with the surgeon. Sometimes orthodontics alone is enough; sometimes the right path is ortho + surgery.
Who this pathway is relevant for
- Skeletal malocclusions where braces alone cannot correct the bony base
- Significant facial / jaw asymmetry with functional or aesthetic impact
- Patients referred by a surgeon or another doctor for orthodontic preparation
- Cases where you want a second orthodontic opinion before deciding on surgery
- Adults (and teens, after evaluation) for whom the plan is interdisciplinary
What we do not do at BioEstetic Dent
We do not perform orthognathic surgery (maxillary / mandibular osteotomies) in our office. We do not have an operating room for this type of procedure and we do not present the service as surgery “at our clinic.”
We do not replace the surgical consultation: operative indication, surgical risks, hospitalization, and perioperative protocol are set by the maxillofacial surgeon. We prepare, explain the orthodontic part, and collaborate.
If after evaluation there is no surgical indication, we say so clearly — and discuss orthodontic alternatives (fixed braces, Damon, aligners, etc.) where realistic.
What we offer in collaboration
Orthodontic preparation
Appliance / presurgical plan so teeth and arches are ready for postoperative positions planned with the surgeon.
Support and coordination
Communication with the surgeon, clinical documentation, clarifying stages: what we do, what surgery does, what follows after.
Collaboration with various clinics
We work with maxillofacial surgeons at partner clinics and centers — we are not tied to a single hospital; choice is by case and your preferences.
Postoperative orthodontic follow-up
After the procedure, we continue occlusion finishing and retention, in line with the surgical protocol and your recovery.
Orthognathic prep vs. orthodontics only
Orthodontics only: we move teeth within existing bone limits. Suitable when the problem is mainly dento-alveolar.
Ortho + orthognathic surgery: when the bony base must be repositioned. We handle the orthodontic stage and collaboration; the surgeon performs the operation at their clinic.
At BioEstetic Dent you can start with an orthodontic consultation (Dr. Andra Stanciu / Dr. Andaluza Chifa). If surgery is needed, we guide you and prepare the case — without claiming the operation happens here.
How collaboration works, step by step
- 1
Orthodontic consultation
Diagnosis, goals, imaging. We determine whether the pathway is orthodontics only or ortho-surgical.
- 2
Interdisciplinary discussion
When appropriate, we collaborate with a maxillofacial surgeon (partner clinic / hospital). You stay informed about both parts of the plan.
- 3
Presurgical orthodontic preparation
We place and activate the appliance per the joint plan; we prepare occlusion for the time of surgery.
- 4
The procedure (at another clinic)
Orthognathic surgery is performed at the chosen surgical service — not at BioEstetic Dent. We stay in touch on the orthodontic side.
- 5
Postoperative orthodontic phase
After surgical recovery, we finish occlusion and establish retention, together with the surgeon’s instructions.
What to expect as a patient
The pathway is longer than “classic” braces: a phase before surgery, the procedure at another unit, and a phase after. We explain a realistic timeline from the start.
You will have two “teams” in coordination: orthodontics at BioEstetic Dent and surgery at the partner clinic/hospital. Roles are separate — that is a specialization advantage, not a gap.
Questions about general anesthesia, admission, surgical risks, and medical leave belong to the surgeon. Questions about braces, elastics, occlusion, and retention belong to us.
Duration, cost, and expectations
Total duration (ortho + surgery + ortho) varies widely: often over 18–24 months overall, but each case differs. Presurgical orthodontic preparation may last many months before surgery.
Costs are split: orthodontics at BioEstetic Dent (per plan and fees) and surgery at the clinic where you are operated (estimate from surgeon). We do not include surgery in our package — because we do not perform it.
